CUT AND SLASH

Cut and Slash S/S 1991 collection is a really beautiful example of working with denim. Vivienne Westwood explores the 17th Century technique of slashing, giving depth to the fabric. This can be seen in FIG 2. where the jacket is slashed and opened creating new found space and volume. Immediately the garment’s original silhouette of the jacket transforms. The slashes are quite effective and the amount of fraying that is given to the garment enhances a quite decorative technique. Visually and texturally the garment breathes new depth.
